We welcome international students, boys and girls, of all nationalities and faiths.
A number of international boarders join the School each year and take up the full boarding option. For them the closeness of the School to Heathrow, Luton and Stansted airports, but also central London is a major attraction.
The boarding school ethos with a commitment to a full programme and boarding house system ensures high priority is placed on pastoral care, to ensure pupils flourish and realise their academic and personal potential.
Each year a number of international students join us from a host of countries including Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan. Currently 8% of our pupils are from overseas. Students can join any year group, dependent on availability.
The majority of our long term international students share the objective of completing A level courses as a pathway to UK universities. Each year we have international pupils who achieve places at Oxbridge and other red brick universities.
Any international student wishing to be considered for a place at Aldenham must have a good command of the English Language in order to progress with the curriculum, GCSE and A Level courses. Some students may wish to spend a term at an International Language School in England to improve their English prior to joining us. Others may wish to join us a term earlier (dependent on availability) for a settling-in period in order to improve their English, make new friends and experience a different culture.
Prospective candidates who wish to be considered for entry to Aldenham are required to send a letter of introduction and complete a Registration Form in the first instance. Students from mainland China should apply via our agents (please see the bottom of this page).
The Headmaster, Mr Fowler likes to meet all candidates for an informal interview at the School. This gives the candidate the opportunity to become familiar with the school and to take an assessment test in English and Mathematics. Alternatively, we can arrange for the test to be taken at the candidate's current school or by an Educational Consultant. Telephone or Skype interviews can also be arranged. A reference is required to support their application. For non EU International candidates we are now adopting UKiset, the UK Independent Schools' entry test.
All international students are integrated into lessons and extra curricular activities and are members of either day or boarding Houses.
Specialist EAL teachers are available for students providing one-to-one tuition. Sessions are also available for preparation for IELTS which includes language skills, subject specific learning and cultural awareness.
Although we are aware that communication with international parents is much more straightforward than it once was, it is a condition of entry to Aldenham School that pupils whose parents normally reside outside the UK must have a nominated person to act as guardian whilst the pupil is at school here.
If you or your family are visiting the United Kingdom and would like to visit Aldenham at any time please feel free to contact us. A tour of the facilities and an informal interview with Mr Fowler can be arranged at your convenience. Please contact Ms B Masters at email@example.com
