Minor Sports

Pupils are encouraged to participate in a new sport, something they haven’t tried before, or work on improving their skills in one of the many minor sports available.

Aldenham FivesFives
Aldenham School boasts six Fives courts. A Fives Club with specialist coaching takes place in the Activities sessions every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year. The main fixtures are played in the Lent term against schools such as Eton, Westminster, Highgate, Mill Hill, Berkhamsted and RGS High Wycombe.
Aldenham SailingSailing
Sailing is run on Tuesday afternoons throughout the year at Aldenham Sailing Club in the nearby Country Park. Sailing is a sport where boys and girls can compete on an ‘even keel’ at School level. We teach beginners and novices as well as coaching more advanced students with a view to competition in inter-school team racing regattas regionally.
Aldenham BasketballBasketball
Aldenham has three mini courts and 1 full sized court with an electronic scoreboard. The game is available for seniors (Year 10 upwards) in the Lent term and fixtures have included Felsted, Haberdashers’, Merchant Taylors’ and Bedford.
Aldenham GolfGolf
Aldenham has a link with Bushey Hall golf club and the members of the golf team are also junior members of Bushey Hall. We have two school teams that play in several regular events including the ISGA match play schools competition. The school runs an academy for potential golfers.
Aldenham TennisTennis
Modern tennis facilities, including three outdoor courts and a tennis ball machine, encourage all levels of play for both girls and boys. Regular fixtures include, Berkhamsted, Haberdashers’ Aske’s, Mill Hill, Royal Masonic and St Albans.
Dance is taught within PE lessons in Year 7 & 8 and in Year 10 & 11 has been a GCSE subject when demand is sufficient. It is offered as an activity for all school pupils and is also taught within the Games programme in the Lent term. We have an annual School Dance Show which is performed over two nights in the School Theatre.
Athletics is taught in all PE lessons from Year 7-10 in the summer term. Students are chosen to compete for the school every year  in the National Track & Field Cup as well as the Watford District Athletics Championships. Furthermore, each year the whole school compete in an Inter-House Athletics competition at Woodside Athletics track.
Volleyball is available to students through PE in years 10 and 11. It is available as a games option in the senior years and the Girls also get a  chance to play in the House games slots on Tuesdays . It is proving to be a popular option, especially for many of our overseas students.
