Sport
One of the aspects of a UK independent education that is so striking to people around the globe is the absolutely central role that school sport, and especially team sport, plays in school life. In other countries sport plays its part, but usually beyond the school gates, whilst in a school like Aldenham the routine of sports matches is a prime part of our programme.
For those seeking independent schools with a strong sporting tradition, Aldenham is well suited, with an excellent variety of activities on the curriculum, including Football, Hockey, Netball, Cricket, Sailing, Tennis, Golf and Athletics.
It is also clear that the role of school sport is recognised widely by elite sporting development programmes in this country, so that our pupils who are on academy programmes at Premiership Football clubs, on representative teams for Hockey, or in county teams for Cricket are all allowed to compete for their school and learn to lead others by their excellence.
At Aldenham we aim to:-
- Encourage participation and commitment.
- Develop sportsmanship and fair play.
- Motivate pupils at whatever level they aspire to and are capable of.
- Develop an interest in sport that will last beyond school.
- Develop an awareness of maintaining good health at all times.
The school's prestigious sporting history is one which inspired me to improve and strive to reach the pinnacle of sporting achievement at Aldenham. The football tours to Madrid, cricket tour to Dubai and indoor Hockey tour to Hamburg were all memorable outings and ones that I feel privileged to have been a part of. The chance to witness the Spanish Football team train, casually chat with the England Cricket team and play at the Shaik Zayed Stadium doesn't come about as often as one may hope. These truly were once in a lifetime opportunities."
