Easy as Pi!

March 15, 2017

Pi Day, March 14th, celebrates the number pi, also written with the Greek letter π. This is because the number π starts out with 3.14 and March 14th can be written 3-14. The Year 6s from Aldenham Prep celebrated with a fun, practical Maths lesson with the Year 7s from the Senior School. Activities involved calculating the lengths and heights of parts of the school (posts, pillars, steps, window sills) by rolling hoops and cylindrical objects along them. The children worked out the circumference of the objects they rolled using pi and were then able to calculate the lengths of the parts of the school.
