Music

Aldenham Prep positively rings with the sound of Music.

Music is at the heart of life at Aldenham Prep, and there are opportunities for every pupil to get involved, whether they’re just starting out or already performing with confidence.
From Year 1, pupils can begin individual lessons in piano or violin with our specialist peripatetic staff, and from Year 3 the options open up further to include orchestral instruments, guitar, drums, and singing — all taught by qualified teachers.
In class, every year group gets hands-on with a different instrument: Year 1 and 2 play glockenspiels, Year 3 discover rhythm and energy on the Djembes, Year 4 bring the heat with samba instruments, Year 5 pick up the ukulele, and Year 6 take to the keyboards.
Singing is woven into school life from the very start — all pupils sing together in weekly Music Assembly, learning hymns and songs throughout the year. We have three thriving choirs: Junior Choir, Senior Choir and Chamber Choir, as well as a Guitar Ensemble and String Ensemble, all performing at a range of events across the year. Our Senior Choir also competes at the prestigious Watford Festival each year.
There’s a rich calendar of performances to look forward to throughout the year, including the Harvest Festival, Christmas Carol Service, Nativities, a variety of concerts, and two major productions — the Year 3 & 4 Spring Production and the Year 5 & 6 Summer Production. We also host a biennial Infant Singing Festival, bringing together children from Years 1 and 2 and pupils from local schools for a joyful and uplifting occasion. There’s no shortage of chances to shine, whether on stage solo or as part of an ensemble.
