OUR HERITAGE

Explore Our Long History

Founded in 1597 by Richard Platt, (Master of the Brewers’ Company in 1576 and 1581). In 1596 he obtained Letters Patent to build “the Free Grammar School and Almshouses” at Aldenham from Queen Elizabeth 1 and the Foundation Stone was actually laid in 1597.

OUR HERITAGE

Evolution And Adaptation

Throughout the centuries, Aldenham has continued to evolve, embracing new challenges and adapting to change. From increasing in size and updating its facilities to revising the academic timetable and expanding the curriculum, Aldenham has always stayed true to its core values.

OUR HERITAGE

Co-educational, Boarding And Day

The school is now fully co-educational, with a balance of boarders (from age 11) and day students reflecting both social and historical shifts, yet the ethos remains rooted in the founder’s original intent: to promote “learning, knowledge, virtue.”

OUR HERITAGE

Over 400 Years Of Exceptional Education

In recent years, Aldenham has expanded further with the opening of the Prep School for boys and girls in 2003. As the school enters its fifth century, with the largest number of students in its history, it remains committed to providing an exceptional 3-18 education while staying faithful to the values set by its founder.
