Hockey at Aldenham

Hockey at Aldenham provides a challenging, enjoyable and inclusive programme, with Performance and Recreational pathways supporting players of all abilities.
Pupils benefit from outstanding indoor and outdoor hockey facilities, specialist coaching and regular competitive opportunities from District through to Regional level.  From developing a lifelong enjoyment of the game to pursuing high-performance ambitions, every player is encouraged to fulfil their potential.

Hockey at Aldenham

Our vision for Hockey at Aldenham is to provide a well-structured, challenging and enjoyable programme in which every pupil can develop their skills, enjoyment and understanding of the game. Whether playing recreationally or aspiring to compete at a higher level, pupils are given the coaching, opportunities and support to fulfil their potential.
Aldenham benefits from excellent hockey facilities, including a full-sized specialist Hockey Astro, a half-sized training Astro opened by Olympic gold medallist Shona McCallin, and a full-sized indoor hockey pitch. These facilities enable pupils to train and develop throughout the year.
We field teams from Year 7 through to Year 10 and at Senior level, competing in a varied fixture programme and a range of competitions from District through to Regional level.

Performance and Participation

Our Hockey programme is built around both a Performance Strand and a Recreational Strand, ensuring there is a pathway for every player. The recreational programme encourages participation, enjoyment and continued development, while the performance pathway provides our most ambitious players with the additional coaching and opportunities required to challenge themselves and realise their potential.
Our experienced coaching staff are guided by England Hockey’s Code of Ethics and Behaviour, creating a positive environment in which players, coaches and parents share high expectations around commitment, respect, teamwork and sportsmanship.
At Aldenham, we want pupils not only to become better hockey players but to develop a genuine lifelong enjoyment of the game.

Indoor Hockey

For the Indoor hockey season, we start training in the summer term and the start of the Christmas term. Our full size indoor hockey pitch is one of the best in the area (Premier League Southgate Hockey Club use our facilities to prepare for their indoor season) and allows us to train and play matches regularly. We host indoor County tournaments. Our indoor hockey season is as competitive as our outdoor season, both boasting elite performers in various teams.
