Eton Fives at Aldenham

Eton Fives is a unique, fast-paced and highly enjoyable sport with a proud history at Aldenham. Combining agility, speed, hand-eye coordination and tactical thinking, the game provides pupils with an exciting physical and mental challenge.

Played in pairs, Fives encourages teamwork, communication and quick decision-making, while helping pupils develop resilience, discipline and confidence. The game is accessible to players of all abilities, making it equally enjoyable for those playing recreationally and those looking to represent Aldenham competitively at the National Championships.

Fives has been part of sporting life at Aldenham for more than a century. Our historic courts were built in 1917 following a donation from Aldenham Master Mr Marriette and were constructed in the traditional Eton Fives style, complete with the distinctive step and buttress.

Generations of Aldenhamians have enjoyed the game since then, and today both boys and girls play Fives recreationally and competitively, continuing one of the School’s longest-standing sporting traditions.

The connection with Fives also continues beyond pupils’ time at the School. The Old Aldenhamian Society has its own Fives team, giving former pupils the opportunity to continue playing, competing and maintaining their connection with Aldenham sport long after they leave.
