Spanish students enjoy time spent in Seville

March 14, 2016

A group of year 10 and 11 students enjoyed their recent trip to Seville where they sampled lots of the local cuisine, took part in Flamenco lessons and were able to visit lots of the main tourist sites. The packed trip, blessed with some spring sunshine, included all the main highlights of a fascinating region of Spain.

A particular highlight in Seville for many of the boys was the guided tour of the football stadium which was followed by a walk to the Plaza de Espana which was built for the expos in 1929 to showcase the different cities and regions in Spain. They also visited the cathedral in Seville where they went up the famous Giralda bell tower and saw the tomb of Christopher Columbus. This was followed by a very informative tour of the Maestranza bullring and a visit to the Flamenco museum, rounding off the day with a vibrant display of Flamenco dancing.

A visit to Granada and the Alhambra palace, a masterpiece of Moorish architecture in Andalucia, was followed by a wonderful tour of the palace and Generalife gardens. Sunday was spent visiting Cordoba with its world famous Mezquita, the mosque which was converted into a cathedral after the Reconquista. The chocolate and churros and a tapas meal on the return to Seville were relished by everyone.

On the last day there was only time for a brief visit to the Alcaza, the Moorish palace in Seville, before going to the airport for the return flight home.
