Athletics Wins in the Track & Field Cup at Woodside Stadium
May 16, 2016
45 Aldenham boys and girls took part in the Track & Field Cup at Woodside Stadium where all athletes compete in 2 events, 1 track and 1 Field. Points are added together for a team total as they compete against other schools in the county. The standard was extremely high and certainly brought the best out of the students.
The Inter boys (Years 9-10) finished second behind Hitchin boys having beaten Berkhamsted, Verulam, Dame Alice Owen’s, St Clement Dane’s, Queens’ and St Colomba’s schools. Tom Wright (High Jump & Hurdles) was the team’s top scorer with 45 points closely followed by Xavier Amaechi (100m & long Jump) with 43. Special mentions also to Edu Toiny-Pendred who broke the school 800m record and Theo Vickeridge the 200m record . The 2nd place finish may be good enough to qualify for the regional finals which take place after half term when all other events are completed around the region.
The Junior boys (Years 7-8) finished a creditable 5th place. Daniel Oyegoke (100m & High Jump) was the top scorer with 36 points. In the 1500m Charlie Patino’s run of 5 mins 13 secs broke the Year 7 record. The Junior Girls event was dominated by one athlete, Milly Gall, who last week became the County Multi events champion, scored an incredible 64 points in her Hurdles & Long Jump. Any athlete who scores over 40 points gets a Platinum award from the English Schools’ Athletics Association, which shows the levels Milly is achieving. Milly actually broke both her own school’s records in the process. A special mention also to Benita Omafade who won her 100m race to gain 15 points in that event.
The Inter Girls had an incredible day breaking no less than 9 school records on their way to a 6th place finish. Debbie Okeowo scored 41 points in her Triple Jump & 300m events whilst breaking school records in both. Ali Caine and Hana Hashiba-Charlton also broke two records; Ali (Hurdles & Discus) and Hana (200m & Long Jump). Further records were also broken by Rebekkah Pedrithes (Shot), Rachel Crawley (Javelin) and Holly Labbett (High Jump).
