Senior students visit the Palace of Westminster

March 14, 2017

Members of the Law Society and A Level Politics students had a memorable visit to the Palace of Westminster. Although they couldn’t get into the House of Commons as it was being prepared for Prime Minister’s Questions about Brexit, they were able to enjoy an in-depth tour of the rest of this historical building.

The visit was enhanced by seeing Douglas Carswell MP, the only member of parliament from the UKIP party, and Sadiq Khan, as well as having a chat with one of the Lords. On a short walk to Downing Street they also saw David Davis (the Minister in charge of Brexit) and Philip Hammond (the Chancellor of the Exchequer) leave 10 Downing Street en route to Parliament.

The tour guide commented: “It was wonderful to meet the students from Aldenham. They asked a great many intelligent questions and it was brilliant to see them so enthusiastic about laws and politics”.

Overall, the trip was a motivating experience where the students had the opportunity to witness the way the country is run first-hand and how laws are made – definitely a morning not to be forgotten.
