Archdeacon of St Albans inducts new Chaplain and Assistant Chaplain

September 18, 2017

On Friday 15 September, The Venerable Jonathan Smith, the Archdeacon of St Albans, licensed The Revd Jos Perris as Aldenham School Chaplain and The Revd Philip Green as Assistant School Chaplain.

Revd Jos Perris has previously been Associate Priest at St Peter’s Church in St Albans with a specific responsibility for the children and youth alongside a part time role as School Chaplain at Abbot’s Hill School in Hemel Hempstead.  Revd Perris joined the Aldenham Foundation on 1st September as School Chaplain, where she will be working across the senior school, the prep school and St Hilda’s in Bushey.

Revd Green has been acting School Chaplain (alongside his teaching commitments and his role as Designated Safeguarding Lead) over the period of the vacancy this last year. He has agreed to stay on as Assistant School Chaplain, whilst continuing his other existing teaching and safeguarding commitments.

Prior to the service, both Revd Perris and Revd Green had to swear their allegiance to the Queen and to obey the rules of the Church of England.  This was then followed by a wonderful service of celebration, where their past roles were acknowledged and the future ministries here at the school were blessed.   Mr Fowler officially presented them to Archdeacon Jonathan, who asked the school if they agreed with the appointment, who fortunately responded positively!  Their licence was then read out, given to them and their hands were then anointed the Oil of Chrism.  The Archdeacon preached about the importance of keeping rules for the benefit of others.

The service was enhanced by the magnificent singing by the pupils and staff, of two fabulous hymns. It was a joyous occasion and both Revd Perris and Revd Green are greatly looking forward to the challenges and joys of the years ahead.
