Aldenham Students Gain Excellent A Level Results

August 16, 2019

The A Level results which were achieved this summer demonstrated an excellent performance by the 89 students in Year 13 who completed their education at Aldenham in 2019. Despite a national picture which saw the new harder A Levels taken in every subject for the first time and a fall in the number of students gaining the top grades of A*/A across the country, the results for Aldenham moved in a positive direction.

21% of A Levels were graded at A*/A, over 50% of the exams were at A*-B grade and over three quarters received either an A*, A, B  or C.   Many students did exceptionally well with the top performers being this year’s Head Boy, Michael Li (A*AAA) who will go to UCL to read Economics, Elliot Stein (A*A*A) who has a place to read Law at Warwick, Patrick Duggan (A*AA) will be at New College, Oxford to read French,  Abbasali Merali (A*AA) will be reading PPE at KCL, Dan Travers (A*AA) who heads to Loughborough for Sports Science, Tom Wright (A*AA) who will be taking a course in Economics and Maths at Bath, Imogen Wilson (A*, A, B) will be reading Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge,  and James Crawley (AAA) who goes to St Andrews to read Biochemistry.

In all over a third of the cohort gained ABB or better.  And  the list of universities where our students will arrive this autumn represent all the top institutions in the UK: Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Durham, Exeter, KCL, Lancaster, Leeds, Loughborough, Oxford, Reading, Sheffield, SOAS, Sheffield, UCL, Warwick, as well as four universities in the US and one in Australia.

In two of the more important measures for future success it was very pleasing to record that 47% of our students will be going to Russell Group universities and that 33% have chosen to read a STEM subject in Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths. Headmaster James Fowler commented:  “We are very aware that our students leave us to move onto the next stage of their lives at an uncertain and challenging time.  We hope that the skills and talents that they have shown at school will be of great value to them in the institutions they will be joining later this year.  I congratulate them on their results and thank all the staff involved in guiding and supporting them to these successes.”
