A Celebration of the School Year
June 26, 2018
The sun shone brilliantly on the 1,200+ parents, staff, pupils and guests who attended this year’s impressive Visitation Day. It was a true celebration of the school year, which started with a lively chapel service which incorporated the reintroduction of the School Song. The Chair of Governors, Mr Trevor Barton, welcomed everyone to the main event, the speeches and distribution of prizes. We were delighted to have Mr Paul Wells, Master of the Worshipful Company of Brewers, as our Guest Speaker.
In an extremely busy programme throughout the day; from the Chapel service in the morning to the speeches which included musical interludes, to the sports and drama displays the day was packed full from beginning to end. One of the highlights was the remarkable Art Exhibition spread over three locations showcasing an array of excellent junior, GCSE and A Level works.
Visitors mingled on Top Field to socialise over relaxed lunches whilst watching the annual cricket match between the 1st XI and a select XI Aldenham side. This was a real treat for both players and spectators. The grounds looked superb and there was a real festival feel to the match. The First XI came out on top, but it is always a pleasure to have the OAs back for an exciting and good-spirited match.
Good spirits continued as everyone relocated to cheer on their teams in the Tug of War finals with McGill’s, Beevor’s and Paull’s House triumphant. Something new this year was the parents versus staff Tug of War, suffice to say that this fun event will certainly be on the programme again next year!
Before everyone left there was just time for tea and cream cakes. Roll on next year’s Visitation Day, by which time we should all have recovered…
