Aldenham Athletes Excel

June 20, 2019

Our young athletes continue to excel: Many congratulations to Milly Gall and Alina Cofie who have the great honour of being selected to represent Hertfordshire at the English Schools National Championships in early July. Milly will compete in the U17 Hurdles and Alina will compete in the U15 Hurdles. Good luck Girls.

Five elite athletes represented the school at the recent Herts County Championships with tremendous success. Jack Swales started the day off in pouring rain by winning the U13 Long Jump with a jump of 4.59m. Myles Lewis-Skelly won the U13 Shot Put whilst breaking the school record with 10.57m but frustratingly finished a close 2nd in the 100m final. Another U13 athlete, Dilara Tekin, finished 6th in the 100m in only her third ever competition. Milly Gall finished second in the U17 Hurdles, being beaten by the number 1 ranked Hurdler in the Country. Alina Cofie also enjoyed a very successful but equally frustrating afternoon. Alina came second in the U15 Long Jump with a PB of 4.97m and then finished 3rd in the Hurdles.

There were also some outstanding individual performances at the District Athletics competition:
Myles Lewis-Skelly – Year 7 Shot Put Winner plus District Record and winner of Outstanding Year 7 Boy Performer. Jack Swales – 100m winner. Shareef Okoya – Discus winner and new school record. Isabella Yeabsley – 800m winner. Marcus-Tulio Ribeiro-Dias – Year 8 800m winner. There were three winners in the Year 10 section: Tom Barrett (Hurdles), Lewis Lavin (Shot Put) and Oliver Blayne, Tom Barrett, Ozzie Ufuah and Nick Kamara (Boys’ Relay). Overall the Year 7 and Year 10 boys were placed 3rd in their age groups and the Year 7 girls were 6th.

Sports Day

Sports Day was all about giving 100%—every sprint, jump, and throw showed real dedication. The competition was intense, but what stood out most was the respect and support everyone showed for each other. We celebrated not just the wins, but the effort, teamwork, and talent on display across the board.
