Another Great Athlete
June 29, 2015

Year 12 student Fiona McQuire is another great Aldenham athlete having gained a gold medal in the Under 20 discus competition which she won at the County championships last month. An injury to her foot meant that she wasn't able to do a turn but she won convincingly with a throw of 30.37m.
Fiona started the academic year by winning the U17 discus competition in the national finals of the Youth Development League which took place at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham in September with a throw of 34.05m. She followed this up with her discus win at the U20 Watford District Schools' competition followed by a gold medal for the triple jump and a silver medal for shot at the Indoor Hertfordshire County Championships.
Fiona has also been selected to be the Hertfordshire Young Official for Hertfordshire at the English Schools Track and Field competition at Gateshead in July which is a great honour as this is a National Level competition.
Sadly a recurring foot injury has meant that she has not been able to compete in her favoured event of Heptathlon, or throw to her best as she was unable to throw with a turn, but hopes to start training again over the summer. Her future athletics plans are to concentrate on discus next season with a view to qualifying for the English Schools Track and Field competition in July 2016.
As well as competing Fiona is a qualified UKA Technical Official and also plays hockey for West Herts Hockey Club in the winter months.

Sports Day
Sports Day was all about giving 100%—every sprint, jump, and throw showed real dedication. The competition was intense, but what stood out most was the respect and support everyone showed for each other. We celebrated not just the wins, but the effort, teamwork, and talent on display across the board.
