Chick Hatching

May 13, 2026

It has been an exciting and memorable few weeks in the Biology Department as we prepared for the arrival of our chicks. Members of Biology Club have worked brilliantly to get everything ready, carefully setting up the brooder and eagerly monitoring the incubator each day in anticipation of the hatchlings’ arrival.

Despite a nervous wait earlier this week, with some chicks emerging far quicker than others, we were delighted to welcome five healthy chicks, with every fertilised egg hatching successfully. Since then, the chicks have been settling happily into their new home in the brooder and have already become a real highlight of the department. Students and staff alike have thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow and develop over the course of these first few days, and our Biology classes will no doubt continue to make regular visits over the coming weeks to meet our newest arrivals.

The response from the wider school community has also been wonderful. We have been inundated with generous offers of homes for the chicks once they are ready, and such has been the enthusiasm that we already have interest for another batch next year, allowing our students to experience this again.

Students explored how AI can be misused, from edited images to inaccurate translations and why it’s important to think critically. A fun translation challenge helped us spot who relied on AI and who didn’t!
