old, to play this traditional Independent School sport.

Playing Fives at Aldenham

Eton Fives is a unique and dynamic handball game that offers numerous benefits for children. Its demands for agility, speed, and hand-eye coordination provide an excellent full-body workout, while its requirement for strategic thinking and quick decision-making sharpens cognitive abilities. Played in pairs, Eton Fives fosters teamwork, communication, and camaraderie, helping children develop essential social skills. The challenging nature of the game instills resilience and self-discipline, while its fast-paced and engaging gameplay keeps children motivated and enthusiastic about sports. Inclusive and accessible to all skill levels, Eton Fives promotes participation and enjoyment, contributing to the holistic development of every child.

More Than A Century Of Fives

The Fives Courts at Aldenham are over 100 years old (built in 1917 after a donation from a Master – Mr Marriette). Built in the Eton Fives tradition, complete with step and buttress, boys (and now girls) have enjoyed the game both recreationally and competitively throughout that time.

The Old Aldenhamian Society has a Fives team, which enables Alumni to continue playing the game.
