Cricket and Hockey Tour to South Africa

February 26, 2020

25 students and 4 staff departed on Thursday 13th February for a cricket and hockey tour to Cape Town in South Africa. The weather was fantastic, and a jam-packed schedule included one cultural experience per day and a cricket and hockey match on most days.

There were two training sessions, a visit to Langa Township and a tour and a meal there in-between fixtures against the local cricket and hockey sides. This was followed by a trip up Table Mountain, although the cloud meant there wasn’t much to see! The boys visited Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years, enjoyed a surf lesson on Muizenburg beach and two safari drives at Aquila Game Reserve.

One of the highlights for the hockey players was their 3-2 win at a well-attended match against Strand High School. In their other matches they lost against some formidable opposition, Langa, Wynberg and Rondebosch, and tied against Pinelands High School.

The cricketers beat Langa and Wyberg High School with good performances, but lost to Rondebosch and Pinelands High School. Their match against Strand High School was cancelled due to poor weather.

It was a brilliant tour that will undoubtedly stay with the boys for many years!
