Historians in Berlin
May 3, 2018
The History department took 34 students to Berlin during the Easter break and the trip proved a huge success. Berlin is a city rich in History and complements their study of Nazi Germany and the Cold War. One of the highlights of the trip was the five hour cycle tour of Berlin, taking in sites such as Check Point Charlie, The Berlin Wall, Hitler’s bunker, the Holocaust memorial, the Brandenburg Gates, Tiergarten and the Reichstag. No trip to Berlin is complete without visiting the 1936 Olympic stadium, the Wannsee conference and Sachenhausen concentration camp.
There were also some fantastic museums to see including, Check Point Charlie, the Topography of Terror and the DDR museum. In a packed schedule they even found time to go up the TV Tower, go bowling and visit the best beer hall in Berlin where they ate traditional German food and listened to German folk music. The students were on great form and behaved impeccably throughout.
