Health and Mental Wellbeing

The Health Centre and Counselling Services

As an important part of our commitment to pastoral care, we have a dedicated
Health Centre, with School Nurse and Health Care Assistants to support the pupils.
We also provide Counselling support to those who need some additional help.

Health

With the main focus of helping the students to remain healthy so that they can access and benefit from the education Aldenham provides – our Health Centre is a supportive place for both preventative health care (such as vaccination programmes and education/awareness) and in supporting when there are incidents.

It is ocasionally the case that some children are taken ill, or become injured on the sports field, and for this our qualified nurse is available. In addition, she helps support the Life Matters department in leading key areas of that curriculum, and in training staff to support children with additional medical needs. The Health Centre is also available for our Boarding Community, and the Nurse supports the control and dispensing of medications. We also have a School Doctor who visits regularly in support of the boarding community.

Mental Wellbeing

Aldenham recognises that children today are dealing with pressures from the nature of the globally connected and technologically driven world. However, it is also the case that some children are carrying more than most, having to deal with issues from home or in the past which are impacting their mental health. Our staff or trained at picking up such issues and in supporting the children through the House.

However, sometimes additional support is required, and for this, we employ both a trained listener and a fully trained Counsellor. Short periods of counselling are available to help children get back on their feet. If more is needed, it is possible for us to refer and support applications to Private therapy or CAMHS.
