Piano Masterclass inspires students

Four of our Year 10 pianists were invited to take part in a Masterclass held in the School with the young and rising international pianist Mark Viner (whose recording of Liszt piano works was selected by BBC Music Magazine the following day as their Instrumental Recording of the Month).

Atahan Diamond, Alex Freeborn, Nasiya Narrandes and Bob Yizhao He represent a particularly rich vein of pianistic talent in their year group and they fully deserved the opportunity to be put through their paces by Mr Viner.  A public Masterclass is in effect a public lesson, but Mr Viner was always encouraging and we also had the opportunity to hear some tantalising snippets of his own virtuoso technique, and he was also generous in sharing his wide knowledge of performance practice, not only in the pieces by Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Bartok offered by our pianists, but in his own specialist area of the music of Liszt.

It was an entertaining and fascinating evening enjoyed by our pianists and the audience alike.  Many thanks must go to Mr Viner for coming to Aldenham and sharing his considerable talents and knowledge with our four very talented Year 10 pianists.

Choir pieces, combined with beautiful solos and an outstanding arrangement of […]

Informal Concert well attended

The Informal Concert featured mainly solo items from performers ranging from Year 7 to Year 12. There were a couple of debut performances from students who have been learning for a very short time; Zehra Kazmi (clarinet) and Rishi Kavia (French horn), to appearances from some of our more seasoned students. As well as instrumental […]
