Pryor Divinity Essay Winner

February 4, 2016

Congratulations to Year 9 student Nicholas Davis who is the winner of this year’s Pryor Divinity Essay competition.

Each year the Religious Studies Department runs an essay competition with the winner awarded the Pryor Divinity Prize which is named after Robert Pryor who was Vice-Chairman of the School’s Governing body for a period at the end of the nineteenth century. The prize was first offered in 1885. About a hundred students from Years 9 – 11 enter the competition. The Department devises a question based on a topic from the news, and students are given fifty minutes to debate the relevant issues in writing.

This year’s question was:

For the love of money is a source of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). To what extent can business be profitable and ethical?
