Peter Pan Production Finishes on a High
May 20, 2016
“Watching the Martineau’s production of Peter Pan last week was a truly magical event, as the talented students from Years 7 and 8 transported us effortlessly to Neverland for the evening” said Year 10 student Jolie Sharpe. “The brilliant young actors portrayed the famous story of Peter Pan with infectious enthusiasm during their two-night run in the Aldenham School Theatre, expertly directed by Miss Brewer.”
Viola Alisha as Wendy Darling gave a mature and confident performance, engaging the audience from the outset and communicating the story superbly as the mother figure. The friendship between her and Peter Pan, played by Michael Duggan, was truly touching with Michael effectively portraying the cheeky charm of the boy who never wanted to grow up. Zia Brown gave an assured and intimidating performance as Captain Hook, complemented by the excellent comic timing of James Gillespie as Smee. The Lost Children were a real highlight, with their energy flooding the stage during every appearance, as were the menacing group of pirates. Special mention must also go to Ethan Hayes and Oliver Newland as John and Michael Darling, as their depiction of the younger Darling brothers had some of the audience in tears.
Of course we cannot forget the outstanding flying sequence choreographed by Miss Burn which used physical theatre brilliantly to complement Peter actually flying – audience members could not believe their eyes when he first flew in! The attention to detail in the set, by Mr Kesselman and Mr Spencer, was highly professional, transporting the audience into Neverland without the need for pixie dust.
