Sixth Form Dinner Commemorates the end of WW1
September 24, 2018
On Friday 21st September 150 students and staff gathered to enjoy a three course meal at the annual Sixth Form Dinner. This year’s theme was particularly poignant – one hundred years on from the end of World War 1 we commemorated the 163 Aldenham students whose lives were tragically cut short in the ‘war to end all wars’.
The food served was typical of the 1910s: starting with a vegetable broth served in an enamel mug; then enjoyed fish, chips and mushy peas; and finishing with a delicious Victoria Sponge. The dining hall bore the unmistakable hallmarks of Mr Spencer’s handiwork: decked head-to-toe in flags, flowers and war memorabilia, it looked absolutely resplendent. There were some other lovely touches: Aldenham Prep School student Isla Murray gave a moving rendition of the Last Post; and Mr Stewart read a beautiful poem he had written four years ago to mark the start of WW1.
Many thanks to those who helped to make the evening so memorable. Particular thanks, as always, to Mr Spencer (the inimitable ‘Potts’), without whom the evening would not have been possible.
