It’s a Jungle Book at Aldenham
May 16, 2019
Enthusiastic audiences were thrilled at the immersive performance of Aldenham’s production of The Jungle Book. Our play was set in a world of lace fabric, gothic tombstones and flickering memories and aimed to question what it means to be different. It also aimed to consider how this changes us and who our family really are; is it those who look like us or those who guide us to success?
The jungle isn’t a nice place. It’s a place where animals have to kill to survive. So, in order to survive, Mowgli, skilfully played by Ethan Saunders, has to also hunt and kill, and keep himself from being hunted. Isabella Yeabsley as the leader of the Wolf Pack, Akela, is kind and honourable—unlike most of the other wolves—who betray her and push Mowgli out of the jungle. Danielle Zilberman’s hypnotic performance as Kaa, would make anyone with a fear of snakes squirm in their seat!
Other main leads, Hannah Cushion as Begeera, Ben Reid as Baloo and not forgetting Jackson Miller as the evil and threatening Sheere Khan also gave incredibly humorous performances with equal amounts of darkness. As indeed did the entire cast in this fast paced production, greatly assisted by a strong team of lighting technicians and stage crew. They should all be extremely proud of a very polished production.
Aldenham pupils are indeed very lucky that there is such strong support for the Performing Arts at the School and that we continue to believe in providing an all-round education for all.
