The Beck Music Competition

The Beck music competition saw over 30 performers battle it out for supremacy in their respective categories, each one hotly contested. The Year 7-8 Junior classical prize was won by Abi Kacki performing the demanding Tchaikovsky Barcarolle and the popular prize by Nora Gold singing Electricity from Billy Elliot.

The Year 9-10 Intermediate classical prize was won by Elise Offele playing a subtly interpreted opening movement of the Moonlight Sonata and popular by Amber Yebovi singing I’m not afraid of anything by Jason Robert Brown. The Seniors classical prize was won by Atahan Diamond playing the formidable Prelude in Eb by Rachmaninoff and the popular prize by Emilie Geissmar-Wagstaff with a stunning take on the jazz standard Autumn Leaves.

Our adjudicator Mr Simon Couldridge, Director of Music at Merchant Taylors’ School, was impressed by our performers’ talent and he could have continued listening to the pupils late into the night. He declared the outright winner of the Beck Cup was Atahan Diamond (Year 12 Beevor’s) with the most mature musical interpretation of the evening.

Informal Concert
