Biology Trip to Juniper Hall

Year 12 biologists enjoyed a busy and rewarding weekend at Juniper Hall in Surrey, immersing themselves in a range of ecological field studies. While the unpredictable weather forced a few changes to our original plans, it also brought some unexpected fun, including a campfire evening complete with roasted marshmallows.

Fortunately, we managed to dodge the worst of the rain during our investigation into the effects of trampling on ecological succession at Mickleham Downs. Students also conducted population studies in a freshwater pond habitat, gaining valuable experience in sampling techniques. One of the highlights was setting up live traps to safely capture, study, and release small mammals, alongside freshwater invertebrate sampling in the River Tillingbourne.

Returning to Aldenham, our students rounded off the weekend by taking on the challenge of the Intermediate Biology Olympiad, a true test of both their knowledge and resilience after an intense few days of fieldwork
