Oxbridge Offers
Congratulations to Sixth formers, Imogen Wilson and Patrick Duggan, who have received offers to study at Cambridge and Oxford.
Imogen has chosen to read Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge because she has always been interested in ancient and medieval history and the development of language, especially in Britain. This course is the perfect combination of her interests: history, literature and language. Imogen explained "I discovered this course when I did my EPQ last year on the purposes of Iron Age remains in Scotland. Doing an EPQ gave me a taste of what studying at university would be like and allowed me to explore my academic interests beyond my A Level subjects."
She was delighted with all the help she got from the School which "helped me massively with my application by supporting me and helping me with interview techniques and essay writing. This school also gave me the confidence to apply by nurturing me as an individual and always encouraging me to persue my academic interests to the highest levels."
Patrick chose to take a degree in French because not only does he love the country but it also suits the combination of his A Level subjects: History, English and French. As the Oxford course is principally literature based he is looking forward to continue exploring his love of Literature, whilst at the same time broadening his understanding of French society, and fluency of the language. A perfect fit!
Patrick said "New College, in my opinion, is the best placed and most beautiful of all the colleges." He met the French tutor there on an open day, and "the Headmaster also insisted that it was ‘the best college of the best university’." He went on to say "I don't think all of this would have been possible without the help of the French Department, the Senior Management, and the other Oxbridge oriented facilities which the school offers."
We wish them well, and look forward to seeing them back here as OAs.
